In the tranquility of almost-summer midnight’s time I longed for a peaceful movie. On the suggestion of a precious friend of mine I picked up this one. Oh, what a mistake – in the sense my head will be preoccupied with thoughts. However simple the story is, it touched me a great deal. Even thought I am still not quite sure why, “for the contemplation about it whole night I certainly have”.

Not so mainstream thoughts on Barcelona’s social life and habits

The catalyst of social life, a cradle of culture diversity, Eva’s Eden of shopping, the mother of siestas. However immodest these nicknames seem, Barcelona is certainly worth such names.

Even time is aware of the uniqueness of city and goes here somewhat differently. Especialy during hot summers the city’s pace fluctuates a lot. During the day the city is bustling place filled with tourists, sporty cars and the buskers who particularly occupy famous La Rambla street. Shopping centers, street cafes, art events, posh boutiques are clogged as well. However after one o’clock many workers are used to going home or to any favourite restaurant where they will have the heaviest meal of the day, that is lunch. When the diners feel the necessity of rest, they do not hesitate to take a nap before returning to the jobs. No sooner does the clock strike 11 p.m. than the city’s pace is getting much more laid-back. At around this time, fabulous beach bars called “chiringuitos” or comfortable cafés are regularly visited. Moreover, it is not unusual, at this hour, to see whole families having light dinner at so-called “nautic” restaurants, which are basically spots along the sea where seafoods is mainly served.

The tempting smell coming from these restaurants together with salty odour of the sea is an indisputable part of a typical night in Barcelona and surroundings. At the weekends, the night life in Barcelona offers well-know clubs where the latest electro, dance or latin music is played. In terms of others habits, citiziens have awe-inspiring one which scarcely permit themselves to break. When the football club FC Barcelona is to play a game, even the youngest children are allowed to watch the match no matter what time is. Barcelona has also its unique society which is higly diverse. Despite the cultural variety does have own issues, the society respects ethnic, racial and sexual minorities. That is one of the reasons why Barcelona is indeed the metropolis which welcomes everybody who desires to enjoy their life, is keen on sports and is prepared to get used on Barcelona’s unique medditerraean rhythm.
